Project Progress: Chestnuts, Royal Holloway University of London

Delivering Sustainability on Site, Not Just in Strategy

Chestnuts, Royal Holloway University of London

Current Progress at Chestnuts, Royal Holloway University of London alongside Francis Construction.
Led by our dedicated team, Scott, MJ and Contract Manager Tom Birch.

As of April, significant strides have been made in the Chestnuts project, underscoring our technical prowess and meticulous attention to detail. Here’s a glimpse into our accomplishments so far:

  • Submain Wiring: Successfully installed, laying the groundwork for a robust and reliable electrical infrastructure.
  • Distribution Boards: With one out of two DB’s installed, we’re halfway through ensuring efficient power distribution across the facility.
  • First Fix Cabling: Small power and lighting cabling first fixes have been executed flawlessly, alongside the ongoing installation of floor boxes.
  • Network and Safety Systems: The Cat 6A network system cabling has been laid out, and the first fix cabling for the addressable fire alarm system is complete. Additionally, wiring for access control, intruder alarm, and CCTV systems is in place, marking significant progress in building a secure environment.
  • Lightning Protection and Renewable Energy: The lightning protection system is installed as far as possible, and the photovoltaic (PV) system is ready for connection, aligning with sustainability goals.
  • Audio-Visual and Emergency Power: AV cabling is in place, and preparations for the generator/ATS cabling are set, ensuring the facility will be well-equipped for modern educational needs.
  • Pre-Dead Testing: Comprehensive testing on all circuitry/cabling has been conducted, ensuring the integrity and safety of the installations before proceeding with ceiling and wall closures.

Looking Ahead

The Chestnuts project is more than an electrical installation; it’s a blueprint for the future of educational facilities. As we move forward, our focus remains on delivering a project that not only meets the immediate needs of Royal Holloway University of London but also serves as a benchmark for future endeavours.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to transform Chestnuts into a state-of-the-art facility that will serve the Royal Holloway University community for years to come.

Looking Ahead

As the construction industry continues to evolve, the role of the electrical contractor will only become more critical in achieving net zero goals.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of that change, combining technical expertise with practical delivery to create buildings that perform better, for longer.
