Proud Moments at the Alex Innes Apprentice Awards 2025

We’ve always believed that the future of our industry lies in the people we train and support today. Apprenticeships are at the heart of that, and the Alex Innes Apprentice Awards are a brilliant way to celebrate the next generation of electricians.

This year, we sent two of our apprentices, Lewis and Charlie, to take part in the competition at JTL Oxford. The event is a real test, from technical challenges through to practical tasks — all designed to find Oxfordshire’s Best Electrical Apprentice.

We’re absolutely delighted that Lewis came away as the winner in his category. It’s a fantastic achievement and one that reflects his hard work, dedication, and growing skillset. We couldn’t be prouder.

Charlie also did himself, and us, proud. While he didn’t win his category this time, his effort and performance on the day were outstanding. Getting to this stage takes guts, and both apprentices showed exactly why we value them so highly within our team.

Why these awards matter

The Alex Innes Apprentice Awards are more than just a competition. They honour the memory of a talented young electrician and shine a light on the role apprenticeships play in building a stronger future for our industry. For us, it’s also a chance to put our values into action, investing in people, raising standards, and giving our apprentices the chance to showcase their talent.

Last year we spoke about the importance of these awards and what they mean to us. You can read that piece here. This year’s results build on that same belief: that our apprentices are central to West & West’s future.

We’re proud of Lewis and Charlie for stepping up, giving it everything, and showing exactly what West & West is all about.

Looking Ahead

As the construction industry continues to evolve, the role of the electrical contractor will only become more critical in achieving net zero goals.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of that change, combining technical expertise with practical delivery to create buildings that perform better, for longer.
