The value of apprenticeships to West & West and the electrical industry

Mar 11, 2022 | Industry Knowledge, Our Team

Apprentices are the future of our business and allow us to grow our team organically. Using the skills and knowledge passed down from previous generations, we are able to provide a high standard of training. Our goal as a company is to provide the industry with top quality electricians that will set the standard for upcoming generations.

Our apprenticeship scheme forges strong two-way relationships, bringing short and long-term benefits to both parties. Training our own apprentices means individuals can develop in a way that meets the specific standards of our business as well as our clients. These tailored skills strengthen our business and give us a competitive edge, as well as boosting productivity.

Once our apprentices have become qualified electricians, our training doesn’t stop there. Any member of West & West is encouraged to take further training courses to better their ability, strengthen their career path and meet not only career-based goals but personal goals as well.

The benefits of apprenticeships are vast. We’ve been running schemes for more than a decade and look forward to continuing to invest for many more years to come. We have received praise from our clients on our ability to nurture the next generation of electrical professionals – here’s a quote from one of our recent clients:

“Hi. I had to go to my daughter’s house yesterday to let in one of your engineers who was testing their installations for the council. Anyway, I was just hanging about, discreetly, in the kitchen and could hear the interaction between the engineer and his young apprentice. The engineer was so professional in his manner, encouraging and teaching the youngster as they did the testing. As a retired teacher, I must compliment the engineer on all his teaching and checking that everything had been understood. Such a joy to see and hear positive encouragement and interaction. Well done!”

Looking Ahead

As the construction industry continues to evolve, the role of the electrical contractor will only become more critical in achieving net zero goals.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of that change, combining technical expertise with practical delivery to create buildings that perform better, for longer.
