World Mental Health Day

Why Mental Health Matters at West & West

Today is World Mental Health Day, and it’s more than just another date on the calendar. It’s a powerful reminder that mental health isn’t just a side note—it’s central to our lives, our work, and our well-being. At West & West Limited, we don’t just want to build incredible projects; we want to build a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive, both mentally and physically.

Mental Health: The Reality

The truth is, many of us will face mental health challenges at some point in our lives. Whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression, or something else entirely, mental health struggles are common, and they often go unseen. Here are a few numbers that speak to the reality of mental health in the UK:

These are not just statistics. They are our colleagues, our friends, our families. They might even be us. Behind every number is a person trying to balance their work, their mental health, and their life outside of work.

What We’re Doing at West & West

At West & West, we’re not just aware of these challenges—we’re doing something about them. We believe that when people feel mentally and emotionally supported, they can do their best work. They can bring their full selves to their role, and that’s something we’re passionate about fostering.

That’s why we recently sent four of our senior managers on a mental health awareness course. We wanted to equip our leadership with the tools to truly understand the mental health challenges that people may face and learn how to offer meaningful support. But we didn’t stop there. We’ve also appointed mental health officers across the business. These officers are here for anyone who needs a safe space to talk, seek advice, or simply be heard.

By investing in mental health, we’re investing in our people—and that’s the most important investment we can make.

Why It Matters

Because let’s be real: it’s not always easy. The pressures of deadlines, the demands of projects, and the complexities of life can weigh on us. But at West & West, we want our team to know that it’s okay not to be okay. We want to build an environment where it’s safe to speak up, where taking care of your mental health is as routine as a site inspection, and where compassion is part of the culture.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we encourage everyone—whether at West & West or beyond—to take a moment to reflect on your mental health. Check in with yourself, check in with a colleague. Ask how they’re really doing. And remember, no one has to face their struggles alone.

Together, we can break the silence, erase the stigma, and create a future where mental health is prioritised, embraced, and supported at every level.

Looking Ahead

As the construction industry continues to evolve, the role of the electrical contractor will only become more critical in achieving net zero goals.

We are committed to staying at the forefront of that change, combining technical expertise with practical delivery to create buildings that perform better, for longer.
