West & West completed a full electrical design & installation at the Museum of Oxford in November 2021 as part of a £3.2m transformation project.
Oxford Direct Services (ODS) selected West & West to design and install an electrical solution for the redevelopment, which created two larger galleries as well as a learning area, community space, gift shop and reception desk.
The electrical package included the installation of new lighting, small power, mechanical power, fire alarms, CCTV systems, intruder devices and access control.
The project took six months to deliver the new extended space, which is located in the Grade II listed Town Hall located in Oxford’s town centre. As this is an historic building, we worked closely with the architects and local conservation officer to ensure the design and installation meet their specific requirements.
We installed multiple cables and wiring discretely throughout the installation to provide an aesthetic solution, avoiding any structural chasing to protect the building’s historic integrity.
The museum, run by the City Council, tells the often-overlooked story of Oxford, its people and communities through exhibits, objects and new oral histories. The redevelopment has been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the City Council and the Museum’s own development trust.
The new space has increased the number of objects on display from 286 to around 750 and created the opportunity for family and learning activity spaces.
